Board Member

Kia ora everyone,

In 1966, I moved to Turangi with my parents at the age of 2 from a small town called Te Mahoe. I attended Turangi Kindergarten, Turangi Primary School and then onto Tongariro School. My first job, once I left school was working for the Tongariro Power Development Scheme, I was the last person to be employed by MOW. I worked there for a few years, then went and worked for the BNZ, then the National Bank, all the while working at our family business after hours in each job.

I met my husband in Turangi, he was born and raised in Raetihi. We had two children and they too attended Turangi Kindergarten, Turangi Primary School and then onto Tongariro Area School.

In 1996 I joined the Board of Trustees at Turangi Primary School. I have remained on the Board, apart from a 2 year break, since. I am passionate about education for all children, to watch a child grow, learn and excel is the best feeling and knowing that, we as a Board, are responsible for giving the Staff the tools to get the children across the line. As a Board member, I am aware that education is not always taught inside the classroom, however the basics reading, writing and arithmetic is, and these skills are required to set a child up for life.
Education is something that evolves overtime however the 3 R’s are still the foundation for us to move forward in the world today.

As a parent and a Board member the only advice I would give you as a parent is to read. Encourage your children to fall in love with reading. With reading we learn new words, we learn correct spelling, punctuation and so much more. Reading takes us to different worlds, reading teaches us about history, so much is learned through reading.

I am very passionate about Turangi. Being on the Board of Trustees
Allows me to give back, give back to a community that has helped educate both myself and my children. I consider it a privilege to call Turangi home.
