Sports at Tongariro

Participation in sport at all levels is encouraged.

A strong relationship is being developed with Turangi Sports and other local sporting clubs.

Clubs use the school facilities for practices and games and give a strong emphasis to student participation in areas such as Netball, Rugby, Soccer, Karate, Basketball, Badminton (Town Gymnasium), Touch, Equestrian, Waka Kopapa.

The school has also establishing sporting links with Ruapehu, Taumaranui, Taihape schools.

SPORTING TEAMS

The Year 10 – 15 area of the school fields a rugby team in the Bay of Plenty Secondary Schools competition, and netball, basketball and touch teams in appropriate competitions.

Students enter as school teams and individuals in skiing and snowboarding competitions.

SWIMMING AND ROCK-CLIMBING

An arrangement exists with Taupo District Council for the use of the Community Swimming Complex.

Class and special groups use the Vertical Assault Climbing Wall for which charges are made.
