We encourage parents/carers to visit the school and enrol their child prior to the child’s fifth birthday.
Parents are invited to phone the school to arrange a time to visit classrooms.
Parents/carers need to contact school and arrange an interview time with the Deputy Principal.
This interview is designed to provide additional information to that on the enrolment form and aid a smooth transition to school.
At Years 10-15 an interview with the Deputy Principal and Year Dean also provides the opportunity for discussion in subject choices and career options.
At Tongariro an Attendance Officer and Truancy Officer are employed to follow up unexplained or long periods of absence from school. Home visits or parent interviews at school may be necessary to resolve the problem.
In some cases the Truancy Officer must report such matters to the Department of Child, Youth and Family Services.
A strong network exists to help support students on all levels. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to keep in contact with the school and notify the office as early as possible of any absences from school.
The school’s office staff attends to sickness or injury, uniform and stationery sales and all miscellaneous matters. No medication can be administered without parental consent. For injury or medical matters the school will contact caregivers and/or arrange appropriate medical care.

Regular contact is made with parents and caregivers via meetings, telephone, email and written reports and newsletters but Parents/Caregivers are invited to ring the office to arrange an interview time with teachers to discuss matters should the feel the need.
The Deputy Principals oversee the three [Junior, Middle and Senior] sections of the school, and in senior school the deputy is supported by the Year Deans and senior teachers in matters of guidance and discipline.
Regular attendance of a Guidance Counsellor provides counselling and student support and can arrange outside counselling support if necessary.
