Kia ora parents, caregivers and whanau

Things are very busy here at school. We have a lot of Education Outside

the Classroom activities happening at the moment.

For our senior school these are happening every Friday for this term. Please make sure the

consent forms are returned to school promptly. Without these forms

being returned students can not take part in the activities. The activities

are part of our drive to include aspects of the curriculum using our local

resources and is part of our revised local curriculum.

Attached to this newsletter is a draft Cell Phone policy for Tongariro

School. As you will be aware the new government has mandated a no cell

phone in classrooms policy. This policy included is an attempt to meet the

new requirements in the most simply way possible.

Any comments you would like to make about this policy should be sent to

administration@tongariro.school.nz and would be much appreciated.

The refurbishment of the new senior block into a Modern Learning

Environment (MLE) is progressing but unfortunately is running behind

schedule. We are unlikely to move into the new building before the

beginning of term 2.

All of the furniture for the new block is here and is being stored in the hall until we move in.

A reminder that the area surrounding the school on both Te Rangitautahanga Road and Waipapa Road is a permanent 30 Km zone.

Please stick to these limits so that we protect our tamariki.

Have a great week

Important Message from Presiding Member Tongariro School Board

A huge thank you to all our students (ranging from Year 3 to Year 12) for representing our school so well in putting the finishing rouches to Te Kapua Playground.

Our tamariki represented our kura in the community so well.  They proved to be polite, capable, and hard-working tamariki, anyone would have been proud.

Special thanks to the Service Academy students for putting int he hard mahi so our tamariki could achieve planting whole areas.

Here's a few photos from the day

Tongariro Students Plan on Overseas Travel

An excited and energetic group of staff, students and parents have plans to travel to Thailand in August/September 2024.

Currently, the group is working hard on fundraising to help meet the costs necessary for this exciting venture.

Activities planned for the trip include a visit to an Elephant Sanctuary, riding in long-tail boats on the canals, and visiting Buddhist temples, floating markets, and the water park in Hua Hin.

We have a school Tuk shop running for 20 minutes twice a week, and desktop sales to add to the kitty with big fundraisers planned in the near future.

We are working on a monster raffle and are so pleased with the support from our local businesses.  We do realise businesses and whanau have had difficulties over the last couple of years however, if any business would like to donate a prize and be included in the recognitions list please get in touch with Vanessa Lumley at school or email vanessa.lumley@tongariro.school.nz.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
